Dating from 845 and built on the site of a Pagan shrine, this is the oldest
wooden church in the world. In Norman times the chancel was replaced by one of flint
and rubble, in 1500 by brick. The nave and dormers date from the 16th c., the west
tower is 17th century. A small piece of 15th c. stained glass in the tower depicts
ST Edmund.
