This fine three storey brick
building was erected in 1740 by Capt. Samuel Bonham, a successful slave trader who is
buried in the churchyard in Orsett. Inside are pedimented doorways and decorated
borders to the ceilings. In the 19th century it became the Orsett Boarding Academy
and was converted to apartments this century.
