The oldest and the first fully-licensed Inn on Canvey Island dating from the time of Elizabeth 1, its construction dates from the 17th century. It is close to the sea wall on the south coast of the island and has attracted passing trade, boatmen using Hole Haven's deep creek could get a comfortable bed for the night.
