HILL The town of Shaftesbury was founded by the Saxons and King Alfred founded an Abbey in the town in the 9th century. Because of its hilltop position it remained a prosperous town all through the middle ages. Gold Hill still retains its cobbles and was used in the Hovis commercial. |
