DEREHAM WINDMILL - NORFOLK The
mill was built in 1836 and was worked by various local farmers until 1922
when the sails were removed and a steam engine and later a paraffin engine
were used to power it. In 1973 demolition was refused because it is
a listed building. The council bought it in 1978 for £1 and started
restoring the building. In 2002 Dereham Town Council took over
the mill and many attempts at repair were tried. In 2011 a group of
trustees gained funding to restore the structure and sails, which took 2
years. In 2013 it was opened as an exhibition centre and cafe. |
