ST. MARY THE VIRGIN The church stands not far from the old Roman road to Colchester and has a number of Roman bricks in the Norman nave amongst the Essex pudding stone. The windows and the north and south doorways are also Norman. The square font dates from 1200 and the west tower with blue brick diaper work and stepped battlements was added in the sixteenth century. |
