Originally built as a priory
church in 1155, the west end of the Norman building still remains. In 1525 when the
dissolution of the monasteries was ordered by Henry V111, it was saved by John Smyth and
converted into a parish church. The 16th century west tower built of Oak is a very
striking feature.
