SOUTHEND PIER (ANTIQUE) A small pier was erected in 1802 and extensions were started in 1829. By 1846 it was 1¼ miles long. By the end of the century it had a bandstand, railway and shops. It was damaged many times by ships and in 1959 arsonists destroyed the pavilion. |
