LEEZ PRIORY GATEHOUSE
HARTFORD END

Leez Priory was founded as an Augustinian monastery in 1220 but was destroyed by Henry V111 in 1536.  Sir Richard Rich built a large Tudor mansion on the site and it was visited by many nobles including Elizabeth 1.  Held by Royalist soldiers for 2 weeks during the civil war, it survived, to be much reduced in size by Guy’s Hospital in 1753.
